Colour Fiesta

Alina Baikova
Photographed by Nicole Bentley
Vogue Australia March 2011

The title "Colour Fiesta" sums this shoot up perfectly. Despite being a person who has a wardrobe which is largely made up of black, this shoot has inspired me to inject some serious colour into my wardrobe. Further, it has confirmed that I simply must buy a red lipstick with an orange hue! Nicole Bentley is a fabulous photographer. Her photos always have a softness about them, uncommon to high fashion editorials.

Gemma Ward

Doll-like beauty, Gemma Ward, is definitely up there with the "It Models" of the decade. She was my favourite model when I was in high school. I had fashion editorial shots of her plastered all over my books and by my desk. She become a popular international model around the same time I became fascinated with fashion editorials. I always thought of her of an alien-like beauty, in a good way of course. Although she has a very unusual look about her, there is something very approachable about her.

Gemma appeared as a guest editor of December 2005 issue of Vogue Australia. To this date it is one of my favourite issues of the magazine. I still have my copy, with lots of missing pages, and cut-out bits.

In 2007 I saw her on Gould St in Bondi Beach while I was checking out the boutiques. She looked fantastic! She was dressed very casual, in a sun dress and sandals, walking along the footpath. She skin was glowing in the sun and I couldn't get over how tall she was. She was even more stunning in real life, without the wonders of magazine air-brushing.

She starred in the 2008 film "The Black Balloon" alongside Toni Colette, which I watched a couple of years ago. I was really surprised by her acting ability. Definitely worth the watch.

Although, Gemma announced retirement in 2007 after Heath Ledges death and complaints of her weight gain, it is rumoured that she will be returning to the modelling world in 2010. I guess we'll have to wait and see if she makes a comeback.

Here are some of my favourite shots of Gemma Ward:

Hello Spring

Codie Yong & Rosemary Smith
Photographed by Nicole Bentley
Vogue Australia October 2010

The perfect shoot for spring. Sure, florals for spring are not groundbreaking - I just thought of Miranda in the Devil Wears Prada when she complains about putting florals in the spring issue. Never the less, I think this shoot is lovely. I love the garden themed backdrop. The clothes are exquisite - such delicate ensembles, lace, feathers, embellishment and lots of colour. Love love love the lace stockings! Not to mention those floral headpieces. I am obsessed with putting fresh flowers in hair at the moment, although I'm sure sure if I could get away with such large numbers of orchids and roses. This shoot is definitely set to become a timeless Vogue Australia favourite.

50s Ladylike Glamour

Catherine McNeil
Photographed by Nicole Bentley
Styled by Victoria Collison
Vogue Australia September 2010

I can't get enough of the latest issue of Vogue Australia. It's the best issue I've seen in a while. This editorial has to be my favourite though. We haven't seen ladylike glamour for a while now. It has been all about tough, grungy glamour. Catherine McNeil is the perfect model for the 50s theme which her amazing bone structure and curves. Loving the cropped hair, dramatic winged eyeliner and light brown with a hint of pink lips. The styling is beautiful - full skirts, cinched-in belted waists and pointy court shoes. Out with the studs and in with the 50s glam I say!

1950s Rock & Roll Girl

Catherine McNeil
Photographed by Max Doyle
Vogue Australia September 2010

This shoot is so cool - so Grease like! Those red lips and nails are divine. The rockabilly hair is amazing. Catherine McNeil is so beautiful, with her womanly curves and cat-like face (in a good way of course). My fav look has to be the third pic with the leopard & polka dot ensemble. It's so feminine & glamourous.
